The RBI has officially announced the withdrawal of ₹2000 notes from circulation, with deposit facilities available until October 7, 2023.

Withdrawal Status of ₹2000 Denomination Banknotes

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has confirmed the ongoing withdrawal of ₹2000 denomination banknotes from circulation as per its press release dated May 19, 2023. Notably, the last status update on this matter was released on April 1, 2026.

All bank branches across the country provided the facility to deposit and/or exchange these ₹2000 banknotes until October 7, 2023. Post this period, the withdrawal process will transition into its final stages, limiting the avenues available for holders of these notes to exchange them for other denominations.

This withdrawal is part of the RBI's efforts to manage currency circulation and reflects broader monetary policy considerations. Legal practitioners and businesses should note the implications on cash transactions and ensure compliance with the current currency guidelines established by the RBI.
