RBI rationalises currency management framework by withdrawing outdated circulars and consolidating instructions into current Master Directions.
RBI Withdraws Redundant Currency Management Circulars
In line with its regulatory rationalisation initiative, the RBI has withdrawn several outdated circulars and guidelines on currency management. The consolidation, effective October 1, 2026, eliminates procedural redundancies and aligns practices with current operational realities.
The move follows a comprehensive review of all currency-related instructions. Withdrawn circulars include those on obsolete methods of note remittance, manual reporting formats, and phased-out verification mechanisms. The updated framework is now primarily governed by Master Directions on currency chests, note sorting, and ATM operations.
Legal advisors should ensure that institutional compliance manuals reference only current directives. The consolidation enhances clarity and reduces the risk of non-compliance due to reliance on superseded guidance.
