Effective October 1, 2026, the Reserve Bank of India mandates submission of the Non-Resident Deposits – Comprehensive Single Return (NRD-CSR) via the CIMS Sankalan Portal. This shift from the legacy XBRL platform aims to streamline reporting and improve data accuracy.
RBI Migrates NRD-CSR Reporting to CIMS Sankalan Portal
As of October 1, 2026, Authorised Dealer (AD) banks must submit the Non-Resident Deposits – Comprehensive Single Return (NRD-CSR) through the CIMS Sankalan Portal. This transition replaces the previous requirement of filing via the XBRL platform under A.P. (DIR Series) Circular No. 19 of 2013.
The upgrade is part of RBI’s broader digital transformation strategy, designed to consolidate regulatory reporting and enhance data analytics capabilities. The CIMS (Central Information Management System) Sankalan Portal offers real-time validation, reducing errors and rework in submissions.
All banks maintaining Non-Resident Deposit (NRD) accounts must ensure staff are trained on the new portal and comply with monthly filing deadlines. The move supports RBI’s objective of improving foreign exchange data monitoring and compliance enforcement.
Institutions should conduct internal testing and coordinate with IT teams to avoid reporting delays. RBI may initiate scrutiny of discrepancies under foreign exchange management norms.
