RBI mandates exporters to file Electronic Declaration Forms (EDF) with designated banks from October 1, 2026, digitizing export documentation and enhancing data tracking.
RBI Introduces Mandatory EDF Filing for Exporters
Effective October 1, 2026, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has mandated that all exporters of goods and services must file an Electronic Declaration Form (EDF) with their designated banks prior to realization of export proceeds.
The EDF replaces the earlier manual shipping bill-based declaration system and integrates with the Export Data Portal. The move aims to streamline foreign exchange monitoring and improve accuracy in export statistics. The RBI emphasized that non-filing would not block fund realization but may attract scrutiny under FEMA 1999.
For trade and banking practitioners, this change requires updating internal compliance systems. Timely EDF submission is now a procedural prerequisite for full compliance with foreign exchange regulations. Exporters must coordinate with banks and logistics partners to ensure data alignment across platforms.
