RBI Mandates EDF Filing for Exporters from October 1, 2026

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has introduced mandatory filing of the Export Declaration Form (EDF) by both goods and services exporters through their designated authorized dealer banks, effective October 1, 2026. The move aims to enhance transparency in foreign exchange inflows and improve monitoring of export transactions under the Foreign Exchange Management Act (FEMA), 1999.

The EDF will capture details including invoice value, currency, method of realization, and buyer information. Authorized dealers are required to verify and report the data to the RBI, aligning with broader digital surveillance initiatives. The requirement applies uniformly to all export remittances, regardless of amount.

This reform fills gaps in real-time tracking of export proceeds and strengthens compliance enforcement under FEMA. Exporters and their advisors must ensure accurate and timely EDF submissions to avoid scrutiny or penalties. Internal systems should be updated to integrate EDF workflows, particularly for service exporters who previously had less structured reporting obligations.
