RBI announces auctions of 91-day, 182-day, and 364-day Treasury Bills totaling ₹24,000 crore. Auctions scheduled for October 28 and November 4, 2026.
RBI to Auction ₹24,000 Crore in Treasury Bills
The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has announced auctions of Government of India Treasury Bills with tenors of 91-day, 182-day, and 364-day. The notified amount for each tenor is ₹8,000 crore, aggregating to ₹24,000 crore. The auction for all three tenors is scheduled for Wednesday, October 28, 2026, with settlement on Thursday, October 29.
Treasury Bills (T-Bills) are zero-coupon short-term borrowing instruments issued by the central government to meet temporary cash mismatches. These auctions are conducted weekly and are critical for monetary policy implementation and liquidity management. T-Bills are issued at a discount and redeemed at face value, with returns dependent on auction yields.
Investors and banks should evaluate the yield curve implications of these auctions, especially in light of the concurrent VRR and state bond auctions. These instruments provide low-risk liquidity management tools and serve as benchmarks for short-term interest rates in the money market.
