RBI Allows Delegation of ATM Cassette Monitoring

October 5, 2026

RBI amends ATM operations guidelines, permitting banks to delegate monitoring of cassette swaps to an Executive Committee, enhancing internal oversight flexibility.

RBI Amends ATM Cassette Swap Monitoring Rules

The Reserve Bank of India has modified guidelines on ATM operations by allowing banks to delegate the oversight of ATM cassette swaps to a Committee of Executive Officers. This change enhances internal governance flexibility without compromising audit trails or operational security.

Previously, monitoring was typically reserved for senior management or zonal heads. The revised framework permits structured delegation, provided that segregation of duties, digital logging, and surprise inspections are maintained. The move supports operational scalability, especially for large banking networks with high ATM density.

Compliance teams should review internal delegations and update Standard Operating Procedures. This amendment complements broader reforms in cash logistics and aligns with digital monitoring capabilities in modern ATM infrastructure.
