CBIC has announced temporary unavailability of e-invoicing services from 31 October to 1 November 2026 for scheduled maintenance. Stakeholders are advised to plan submissions accordingly to avoid disruptions.
E-Invoicing Services to Be Temporarily Unavailable for Maintenance
The Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC) has issued an alert announcing temporary suspension of e-invoicing services from 31 October 2026, 10:00 PM IST, to 1 November 2026, 06:00 AM IST, due to scheduled system maintenance. The downtime is necessary for server upgrades and performance optimization of the GST e-invoice portal.
During this period, generation, cancellation, and validation of e-invoices will not be possible. The National Informatics Centre (NIC) will carry out backend enhancements to improve system stability and scalability. CBIC has advised taxpayers, especially high-volume generators, to pre-generate e-invoices where feasible to prevent operational delays.
This routine technical maintenance highlights the reliance on digital infrastructure in GST compliance. While prior notice reduces impact, businesses with real-time logistics operations should consider buffer inventories or alternative documentation protocols during the blackout window. No extensions in filing timelines are expected for returns due immediately after the outage.
Practitioners should inform clients about the schedule and verify system restoration post-maintenance. Future downtimes may prompt calls for extended service windows or disaster recovery protocols to support uninterrupted compliance.
