New Appointments Announced for Supreme Court Judges

The Central government has officially cleared the appointment of five new judges to the Supreme Court, consisting of four High Court Chief Justices and Senior Advocate V Mohana. The announcement was made by Union Minister of State for Law and Justice, Arjun Ram Meghwal, highlighting the crucial expansion of judicial resources following the government's recent ordinance to increase the Supreme Court's sanctioned strength from 34 to 38 judges.

The four Chief Justices appointed include Justice Sheel Nagu, Justice Shree Chandrashekhar, Justice Sanjeev Sachdeva, and Justice Arun Palli. With these appointments, the Supreme Court is now poised to operate with 37 judges, enhancing its ability to manage caseloads effectively.

These appointments signify an important step in strengthening the judiciary and increasing judicial capacity, a development that legal practitioners should monitor closely, particularly in light of anticipated impacts on case backlogs and the efficiency of judicial proceedings.
