SEBI Proposes INR-Based FPI & FVCI Fees to Eliminate USD Payment Challenges

July 3, 2026

SEBI suggests transitioning FPI and FVCI fee payments from USD to INR to simplify accounting and reduce complications.

Transition to INR-Based Fees for FPI and FVCI

SEBI has proposed a transition of Foreign Portfolio Investor (FPI) and Foreign Venture Capital Investor (FVCI) fees from USD payments to Indian Rupee (INR) to simplify the fee collection process and minimize accounting complications.

This proposed change is expected to ease the reconciliation challenges faced by financial institutions and broaden the scope for international investors to participate without currency conversion issues. An initial six-month transition period has been suggested to facilitate this shift.

Legal practitioners should prepare for the implications of these changes, which could alter the operating landscape for foreign investors in India.
