SEBI Aligns Mutual Fund Ads With Common Code

SEBI has amended the SEBI (Mutual Funds) Regulations, 1996 through the 2026 amendment, replacing the Fifth Schedule on advertisement standards with a reference to the Common Advertisement Code (CAC) under the SEBI (Intermediaries) Regulations, 2023.

This harmonization ensures uniform advertising standards across all market intermediaries, including mutual funds, brokers, and research analysts. The CAC prohibits misleading claims, guarantees of returns, and inappropriate comparisons, while mandating risk disclosures in clear language.

The change streamlines compliance and reduces regulatory fragmentation. Fund houses must now align all marketing material with the CAC, subject to SEBI oversight. The amendment reflects SEBI’s ongoing effort to protect retail investors from aggressive or deceptive marketing.
