RBI Mandates EDF Filing by Exporters from October 1

October 11, 2026

The Reserve Bank of India now requires all goods and services exporters to submit an Electronic Declaration Form (EDF) to their designated banks starting October 1, 2026.

RBI Introduces Mandatory EDF Filing for Exporters

Effective October 1, 2026, the Reserve Bank of India has mandated that all exporters of goods and services must file an Electronic Declaration Form (EDF) with their designated banks prior to the realization of export proceeds. The move aims to enhance transparency and streamline foreign exchange reporting.

The EDF requirement replaces the manual Electronic Export Declaration (EED) and integrates with existing customs and banking systems. Exporters must declare shipment details including value, currency, and expected date of receipt. Designated Authorized Dealer (AD) banks are now responsible for validating and reporting EDF data to the RBI’s central monitoring system.

Implications for Practitioners

Corporate legal and compliance teams must update export procedures to include EDF submission as a pre-condition for realization tracking. The change increases documentation requirements but may reduce disputes over export incentives and realization timelines. Non-compliance may affect eligibility under export promotion schemes.
