RBI Launches Quarterly OBICUS Survey for Q2 2026-27
The Reserve Bank of India has initiated the 75th round of its Order Books, Inventories and Capacity Utilisation Survey (OBICUS), covering the July–September 2026 quarter (Q2 of FY 2026–27). The survey, conducted since 2008, gathers quantitative data from manufacturing firms on new orders, inventory levels, and capacity utilisation.
OBICUS serves as a key input for monetary and industrial policy formulation, providing early signals on economic activity and demand conditions. The data helps assess manufacturing momentum and inflationary pressures stemming from supply-side bottlenecks or inventory cycles.
Legal and economic advisors should recognise OBICUS as a reliable barometer of industrial health. The results, typically released with a two-month lag, are often cited in regulatory and policy documents. Participating firms must ensure accurate and timely reporting to avoid non-compliance risks under RBI data collection directives.
