CBDT introduces ITNS 281N, a unified challan for TDS and TCS payments under the new tax regime.
New ITNS 281N Challan for TDS and TCS
The Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) has introduced Challan Form ITNS 281N, a single unified platform for depositing Tax Deducted at Source (TDS) and Tax Collected at Source (TCS) under the new tax system. The move aims to simplify compliance for taxpayers and reduce errors in payment classification.
The form replaces multiple existing challans and integrates TDS and TCS under one payment voucher. It will be supported by updated e-filing infrastructure and real-time reconciliation with taxpayer accounts. The department expects faster processing and better audit trails.
Practitioners should educate clients on transitioning to the new form. Errors in form selection may result in delayed credit. The rollout signifies a broader digital transformation in tax administration.
