IBBI Cancels IP Registration Over Suspicious Insolvency Proceedings

August 16, 2026

The Insolvency and Bankruptcy Board of India (IBBI) has revoked the registration of an Insolvency Professional (IP) due to failures in investigating suspicious Corporate Insolvency Resolution Processes (CIRPs), valuation discrepancies, and potential fraudulent transactions.

IBBI Revokes IP Registration for Non-Compliance

The Insolvency and Bankruptcy Board of India (IBBI) has taken the significant step of canceling the registration of an Insolvency Professional (IP) on grounds of serious lapses. The cancellation is primarily due to the IP's neglect in investigating suspicious activities during various Corporate Insolvency Resolution Processes (CIRPs), discrepancies in land valuation, and indications of possible fraudulent transactions.

The IBBI's decision emphasizes the importance of due diligence and compliance with statutory obligations by insolvency professionals. In the ruling, it was noted that failure to address red flags in the CIRPs not only jeopardizes the integrity of the insolvency process but also has broader implications for creditors and stakeholders involved.

The order brings attention to the specific valuation discrepancies which were reported to be between ₹52 crore to ₹61 crore. The IBBI underscored that inadequate oversight in these cases could facilitate grave injustices and undermine the efficacy of the insolvency framework.

This ruling serves as a stern reminder for insolvency professionals to maintain rigorous standards of conduct and to perform thorough investigations to uphold the integrity of resolution processes. Practitioners should ensure compliance with all statutory provisions to mitigate risks of similar regulatory actions.

“Failure to investigate suspicious activities leads to serious trust deficits in the insolvency framework,” the order emphasized.
