Form ITNS 281N Introduced for Unified TDS/TCS Payments

October 26, 2026

CBDT introduces Challan Form ITNS 281N for consolidated payment of TDS and TCS under Income Tax Act, simplifying compliance.

New Unified Challan ITNS 281N for TDS/TCS

The Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) has introduced a new electronic challan, Form ITNS 281N, for the consolidated payment of Tax Deducted at Source (TDS) and Tax Collected at Source (TCS) under the Income Tax Act, 1961. The form aims to streamline tax remittances and reduce filing errors.

The move integrates multiple challans into a single platform, enabling taxpayers to deposit various types of TDS and TCS in one transaction. This is part of broader digital reforms under the 'Taxpayer Friendly Initiative' to improve ease of compliance. The CBDT has launched a supporting portal for pre-filing validation and error alerts.

Practitioners should update accounting systems to adopt ITNS 281N from its effective date. While voluntary initially, it is expected to become mandatory for all corporate and high-volume deductors. This reform is likely to reduce compliance friction and reconciliation issues in annual filings.
