Prof. Feroz Ali Launches Free Online Patent Treatise

October 24, 2026

Prof. Feroz Ali launches 'Ali on Patents', a free, online treatise containing court judgments and commentary on Indian patent law, aimed at practitioners, students, and patent examiners.

Launch of 'Ali on Patents' Digital Resource

Prof. Feroz Ali has launched a free online platform titled Ali on Patents (www.aop.onl), a digital version of his authoritative treatise first published in 2007. The platform offers curated judicial decisions and analytical commentary on Indian patent law, with content strictly limited to court pronouncements and the author's original text—explicitly excluding AI-generated content.

The resource is structured into two types of pages: 'Reading Pages' for narrative explanation and 'Citation Pages' that compile relevant case law on specific legal issues. It covers topics including patentability criteria, amendments, infringement, compulsory licensing, and international obligations under TRIPS. The platform targets a broad audience—patent agents, examiners, judges, in-house counsel, academics, and law students.

This launch enhances access to reliable, curated IP jurisprudence in India, particularly valuable in a landscape where doctrinal clarity is evolving. By ensuring content integrity and resisting AI interpolation, the project sets a benchmark for trustworthy legal resources. Practitioners may use it for pre-litigation research, drafting patent opinions, and understanding emerging trends in patent interpretation.
