Effective 1 October 2026, RBI mandates 9-month deadline for export proceeds realisation, extendable by AD banks; INR exports allowed 12 months.
FEMA Export Rules 2026: 9-Month Realisation Deadline
The Reserve Bank of India has revised the timeline for realisation of export proceeds under the Foreign Exchange Management (Export and Import) Regulations, 2026. Exporters must now realise and repatriate proceeds within 9 months from the date of shipment, a reduction from the previous 12-month window.
Authorised Dealer (AD) banks may grant extensions beyond 9 months based on justifiable grounds. For exports invoiced in Indian Rupees (INR), the compliance period is extended to 12 months. The framework also updates rules on advance payments, set-off mechanisms, and Electronic Data Filing (EDF) requirements.
Exporters and legal advisors must update internal compliance checklists and ensure timely reporting via the EEFC and other FEMA-mandated channels. The changes reflect tighter monitoring of forex flows and reinforce accountability in realisation timelines.
