Delhi HC petition to stop CJP protest at Connaught Place

October 15, 2026

A petition has been filed before the Delhi High Court seeking to restrain the 'Cockroach Janta Party' from holding protests at Connaught Place, citing public disruption and financial losses.

A petition has been moved before the Delhi High Court to restrain the so-called 'Cockroach Janta Party' (CJP) from holding protests at Connaught Place on Friday. Senior Advocate Sacchin Puri, appearing in the matter, urged the Bench led by acting Chief Justice Nitin W Sambre for immediate interim relief, arguing that the demonstration would cause massive public disruption, traffic bottlenecks, and financial losses to local businesses in Central Delhi.

Puri emphasized the need for maintaining public order and economic stability, pressing the Court to intervene before the protest could proceed. The petition highlights the recurring issue of high-footfall areas in Delhi being used for political demonstrations without adequate clearance or regulation.

The Bench is expected to hear the matter urgently, with stakeholders closely watching whether the Court imposes prior restraint on protest rights in sensitive commercial zones. The outcome may set a precedent for balancing the right to protest under Article 19(1)(a) with public order and economic rights.
