The Delhi Gymkhana Club has approached the Delhi High Court against a Central government order mandating the vacating of its premises. The case is set to be heard on May 26.
Delhi Gymkhana Club Challenges Eviction Order in High Court
The Delhi Gymkhana Club has filed a petition with the Delhi High Court contesting a Central government directive requiring the club to vacate its 27.3-acre premises located in Lutyens Delhi by June 5. Senior Advocate Abhishek Manu Singhvi represented the club during the mention of this case before Justice Avneesh Jhingan.
The Land and Development Office (L&DO) issued the directive, asserting that the club must relinquish its occupancy of the land under the current government's policy framework. The petition raises numerous questions regarding the legality and justification of this eviction order.
“This challenge underscores the complexities involved in governmental land policies and their impact on historical institutions,” commented legal experts.
Justice Jhingan agreed to list the case for a hearing on May 26, reflecting the urgency and potential implications of the ruling for club members and governance of such prestigious institutions.
Legal practitioners should monitor this case closely, as it raises fundamental questions about property rights, administrative authority, and the ongoing balance between public interest and institutional heritage.
